Privacy at HAVI

Private beta. Short version: HAVI only wants to know what's in your kitchen.

Kitchen photos

You can take photos of your fridge, freezer, pantry or counter, or choose existing photos from your library. HAVI processes those images to identify the ingredients that are visible in them.

Photos are resized on your device and sent over an encrypted connection to HAVI's server, which passes them to the AI processing provider HAVI uses for ingredient recognition. This processing is required for the scan feature to work.

HAVI does not persistently store your kitchen photos in its own storage system. They stay in your device's memory for the scan. HAVI does not control how the AI provider handles data on its side, so please avoid including sensitive personal information (documents, screens, faces, addresses) in your kitchen photos.

Account data

If you create an account, HAVI stores your email address, the display name and picture your sign-in provider gives us, and your account creation date. Guests can use HAVI without an account.

Kitchen inventory, saved recipes and preferences

When you are signed in, your kitchen ingredients, saved recipes, dietary and cuisine preferences, and a scan history record (date, number of photos, detected ingredient names — never the images) are stored in your account. As a guest, this information stays on your device only, and is transferred into your account if you later sign in.

Authentication

HAVI supports email and password, Google and Apple sign-in. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to HAVI. Signing in with Google or Apple shares the basic profile information those services provide.

Third-party services

HAVI relies on a managed cloud backend for authentication and database storage, and on an AI provider for image analysis and cooking answers. Data is shared with these services only to deliver the features you use.

Analytics

HAVI records simple product events (for example: a scan started, a recipe was opened) with a small set of non-identifying counters, so we can see which parts of HAVI work. No photos, no ingredient content and no contact details are included.

Data security

All traffic is encrypted in transit. Every record is tied to your account and the database enforces that rule, so no other HAVI user can read your kitchen, recipes, preferences or profile. AI credentials stay on HAVI's server and are never sent to your browser. AI requests are rate limited to protect the service from abuse.

Deleting your account and data

You can clear your kitchen at any time from Profile. To remove everything, open Profile → Account settings → Delete Account. That permanently deletes your profile, kitchen inventory, saved recipes, preferences, scan history and analytics records, and signs you out. Backups held by our infrastructure providers may retain copies for a limited period before they expire.

Your rights

You can access and correct your account details in Account settings, and delete your account and its data at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data.
